What can I do to further my spiritual journey without joining a religious group?

I use to be an avid Christian and though I still believe in God I not longer go to church because I have never felt farther away from God than when I was in a church or some place of worship. Every church I have ever been to has cut me down.

What can I do to further connect with God on a spiritual level without giving up my soul to a church? Churches and religion are man made creations and serve a social function. Buddhism is a spritual philosphy rather than a relgion. You can be a christian Buddhist or Jewish or Islamic Buddhist. You may find some fullfillment in the study of Buddhist philosophy. You can find sight on the internet about Buddhism and most cities have buddhist centres where you can attend talks on meditation etc. Where ever your journey takes you…Good Luck.

What type of meditation do you recommend?

I’ve been doing breathing meditation for 20 minutes every day and I’m fascinated by the results. But I kind of want to take this to the next step. What would that be? I’ve read that breathing meditation is usually used as preliminary to other types of meditation, not done on its own. What are these other types and which one do you recommend I try first? Meditation is in part a kind of enlightened self-awareness.

The inner child or soul with its childlike joy, kindness, truthfulness and love begins with a fairly clean slate. The wise parents and the wise child learn to nurture and champion these qualities, and to heal childish anger, fear, etc.

As people live, they often tend to accumulate baggage of the subconscious kind; these tend to arise in dreams as "explanations." Dream consciousness arises from waking subconscious. Research studies show a homeostatic inner monologue going on in one’s waking subconscious, as the subconscious, which becomes . . . → Read More: What type of meditation do you recommend?

Does exercise improve spiritual health and help you to reconnect with your self?

Meditation and fasting were the two ancient methods used by people to help achieve inner peace.

But what about exercise? Does it have any benefit besides just physical and emotional health? Can it help you open up your spirit? Yes, exercise does help to connect with self, especially Yoga. Breathing exercise and Meditation will help you a lot to reconnect with yourself.

why do certain spiritual types like to make people feel guilty for buying material stuff?

Why is one extreme better than another? By that I mean occupying your mind with God and only God and living in abject poverty because that’s somehow better than not depraving your body of certain needs and/or wants. The practice of moderation and balance is key here. As well as the principals in which you live by. Life is meant to be abundant in all aspects. When we resist our desires we shut off the divine within. Those that have been taught otherwise, will be cut off from a little part of themselves until they learn otherwise. Please don’t judge them though, they know not what they do.

Living life loving.

How do you make more income as a yoga instructor?

My friend is struggling to make ends meet as a yoga instructor. How can she build her clientele or what other things could she do to make more income as a professional in this field? Well thats all well and fine if Yoga was a commodity or product that was created to market and sell to the masses and make lots of money for the Yoga Instructor, but it is not a commodity or a product, and Yoga Instructorship is not a profession, it is a spiritual vocation, like being a pastor or monk.

Yoga is sacred spiritual pathwork towards self-realization and mergence into God-Consciousness. The western world has bastardized it’s first, original and only true value: the scriptual yogas of the Vedic Sanatana Dharma are spiritual practices taught without regard to compensationo by holy beings, saints, gurus and monks/swamis from ashrams and temples of Hinduism and its denominations, such as Kashmir Shaiva or Buddhism. Yoga is a spiritual . . . → Read More: How do you make more income as a yoga instructor?

What would happen if I died, but all the particles of my body became arranged in the same order as it is now?

First off – it’s a hypothetical question. (I feel the need to say this because someone’s going to say, that’s highly unlikely)

Secondly – Would I be reincarnated? If not – Why not?

If we are to assume we’re only chemicals and particles strung together, what would be missing if I was rearranged in the same fashion? Is there something such as the spiritual, or my soul, that would be missing in the rearrangement ~ the key to me becoming me again? Yeah, very hypothetical — because it’s not possible. Quantum uncertainty makes it so. The "particles" in your body aren’t even the same from one picosecond to the next.

At any rate, even if that happened, no — "you" wouldn’t be "reincarnated." A copy of "you" might, but not "you."

What is your personal outline of spiritual growth?

What spiritual things you have learned/realized at a certain age? Every human being is in fact a spirit… the soul atman within on its cosmic journey! Our soul atman being the master and controller of the body… it is imperative upon the body… the human form to travel the spiritual path. Every moment of time human beings live two lives. One by the outer covering… the physical manifest itself and the other by our real self… the soul atman within!

For living the physical manifest life in the best possible manner… one need not indulge in spirituality at all! However if we desire knowing the essence of our soul atman… the rationale behind our soul atman manifesting the human form… we need traveling the path of spirituality… the path advocated by Bhagavad Gita… the most sacred Scripture of Hinduism on Mother Earth!

Bhagavad Gita is one single document… knowing which one becomes the knower of all… gains omniscience forever! For . . . → Read More: What is your personal outline of spiritual growth?

How long does it take to see the benefits of meditation?

How long does it take to see the benefits of meditation? I’ve been meditating for 20 minutes, twice a day, for about a month. I still can’t see any positive internal changes. Would living in a abusive/negative environment prevent these changes from occurring? When I meditate I’m usually calm and peaceful, but I don’t feel that way during the day. Please provide some insight. Thank you. It is very good you have committed to a daily practice. Now, a little patience is needed. The river of your body-mind-Being is muddy, from years of neglect. It may take a little time for the mud to settle, so that the clear, fresh water is known and tasted.

If you are living in an abusive/negative environment now, this will add a bit of challenge to things. As you move through this environment, notice how you respond to each event. Over time, you may find more options available to you than you currently see.

Spiritual Exercises – Does anyone have a simple list of how to carry out spiritual exercises?

I am interested in carrying out the spiritual exercises as practiced by the Jesuits. However I am a hindu and my current circumstances do not allow me to join a Christian group. Any basic advise from some one would be much appreciated. http://www.nwjesuits.org/JesuitSpirituality/SpiritualExercises.html

I am not a Jesuit, but i regularly meditate and meditation is GREAT at drawing you closer to God and the spiritual world (in a sense, enlightening yourself)
